Massachusetts Army National Guard Armories
State of Massachusetts
SWA is retained by DCAMM to provide accessibility consulting services on various state projects.
Project Overview
The Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) works with state agencies to create and manage forward-thinking sustainable buildings to meet the needs of the citizens they serve. DCAMM partners with agencies to help them meet their strategic needs with fiscally responsible building and real estate solutions.
For this particular project, SWA conducted accessibility audits of 41 existing Army National Guard Armories located throughout the state of Massachusetts. Because many public activities, services, and programs are held at the armories, the Army National Guard sought to improve accessibility for members of the public. SWA assessed compliance with accessible design and construction requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and its referenced technical criteria, the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, and the Massachusetts building code and its referenced technical criteria included in the 521 CMR Standard. Following the completed audits, SWA collaborated with DCAMM in an effort to synthesize the findings and summarize recommendations for accessibility improvements.
